Interestingly restriction on use items such as being able to barbecue on a balcony, patio or deck can be a deal breaker for a buyer!
Bylaws range from NO BBQ's to gas only, covered, located 24" from any exterior surface. Some condo's offer common area courtyards with BBQ's, etc.
Items such as exterior Christmas decorations and live trees can be restricted in condominiums. Some bylaws have time frames in which holiday decorations are to be removed. The colour of window treatments permitted to be seen from the exterior is often restricted to white or neutral in an apartment style building.
Bylaws also frequently restrict the hanging or placing of flags, adding awnings, garden sheds, smoking and more on the common property. For many condo's Common Property can include everything outside the interior finishing!
